HOUSE

ROCK

Serifos, Cyclades
The house on the rock consists of the internal remodeling of an existing two-floored house, as well as the creation of a a joined extension of a two leveled house, in the Chora of Serifos. The house on the rock follows the traditional principles of the Cycladic island architecture. Existing and new home become one.
This contemporary Cycladic summer house emerges from the rock and has a magnificent view towards the sea. The architectural idea is shaped by two main pillars: the prominence of the rock and the "turn" of the entire residence towards the sea.
The rocky site plays a leading role in the interior, as at its lowest level, the rock is visible and forms the "background" of the new house. At the same time, the amphitheatrical sense of the site turns all the areas of the house towards the endless blue.
